CANINE BEHAVIORIST

With over twenty five years experience in dog training, I love working with unusual and tricky behavior problems. My background is in police K9, scent detection, agility, and obedience. I believe in a deep study of methodology, and employ positive methods in any training program. I also provide expert testimony in dog bite cases.

PET BUSINESS EXPERT

From dog daycares and hotels to full-blown dog training franchises, I’ve created and developed many successful dog-related businesses. As a consultant I’ve assisted dozens of new business owners as they create their own vision and learn how to run it with joy.

WRITER

As a student of philosophy, I care deeply about the ways in which consciousness, neurology, and behavior intersect. I explore these themes in my writing and have written extensively on the practical application of dog training. My new book on dog training will be published in 2026.

PROJECTS

PAWS 4 LIFE - NEW!

Helping Veterans and Prisoners

Paws 4 Life recently migrated their very successful service dog training program from a prison in Northern CA to SoCal. I’m overseeing the implementation of their training program in their new home. Prisoners train rescued service dogs who go on to assist veterans with PTSD. Win-win!

THE CONNECTED CANINE

A New Book on Healing

The trauma of the rescued dog: multiple placements, neglect, poor socialization, and more can all affect behavior in new homes. In this book I explore the paths to healing traumatized animals using simple techniques that emphasize connection, calming behaviors, and neurological flexibility. Coming soon!

DOG REACTIVITY STUDY

Is there an easy fix?

I’m currently exploring a new behavioral therapy for reducing dog-to-dog aggression, especially while on leash. Lunging and barking on leash is the MOST common behavior problem I currently see. If your dog does this but is otherwise friendly, contact me to participate in the study! Positive reinforcement.
